Milwaukee and SE Wisconsin have been on a facinating journey on the way to creating what many are hoping will be a modern regional transit system. See this intriguing inside view and watch history in the making.
Gridlock is a forum of opinions from citizens and political leaders and other compelling characters that provide unique historical, professional and personal perspectives. This documentary gets at the heart of several questions including why the Milwaukee area lags conspicuously behind all other US metropolitan areas in implementing a modern public transit system. Other metropolitan areas including Atlanta, Minneapolis and Cleveland that have implemented modern transit systems are also explored as representations of how a modern transit system impacts the economy and culture of metropolitan areas.
Gridlock also informs about the politics and policies behind public transportation decision-making and the ongoing efforts to study, promote and develop a modern public transportation system.
This story is told using a combination of insightful commentaries, case studies and statistics of the Milwaukee metro area's complex struggle to save their bus system and expand beyond conventional buses. People from all walks of life will present a point, counter-point forum, providing viewers with subjective opinions on transit issues such as function, finance, use and community impact. In addition, public figures, officials and transit experts will provide more informed analysis and opinions.
Gridlock is the story of public transit initiatives in Southeast Wisconsin from July, 2006 through June, 2009. Several crucial developments have occurred during this time including the State Legislature’s consideration of transit proposals in the 2009-2011 budget; the financial and service crisis of the Milwaukee County Transit System; the proposed commuter rail service between Kenosha and Milwaukee and proposals for mixed rail and bus rapid transit systems for Milwaukee County by the Milwaukee Connector study group.
